パリ郊外の介護施設「自由の庭」で施設長を務めるマリー＝ルーは、入居者を人間らしくケアすることを理想としていたが、人手不足やスタッフの無理解などに悩んでいた。そんななか、マリー＝ルーは舞台演出家である日本人女性の真理と出会い、彼女の描く演劇に勇気を貰う。名前の響きが同じであることから2人の交流が始まるが、がん闘病中の真理の具合が急に悪くなり、病状の進行と共に彼女たちの関係は深まっていく。
