就職活動へのやる気が起きず、生きる興味さえ見失っていた大学3年生の大友勇輝は、周囲から取り残されていく孤独感と将来への虚無感に包まれるなか、伯父に誘われて夏休みを福井で過ごすことになる。ある日、溺れている人を助けようとして自身も溺れてしまった勇輝は、若狭和田ライフセービングクラブのメンバーに救助される。無気力だった勇輝だが、クラブのリーダーである立石泰彦らの信条を知り、ライフセーバーになることを決意する。
