不当な解雇で職を失った青年、直井玲斗は、罪を犯して逮捕される。突然現れた弁護士に、依頼人の指示に従うなら釈放すると告げられた玲斗は条件をのむことに。そんな彼の前に現れたのは、亡き母の腹違いの姉だと話す、大企業の柳澤グループの発展に貢献してきた人物、柳澤千舟。千舟に命じられ、月郷神社に佇むクスノキの番人となった玲斗は、クスノキに通い続ける男、その娘で父の行動を不審に思う女子大生、家業の継承に葛藤する青年など、様々な事情で訪れる人々と出会う。彼らや千舟と関わるうちに、玲斗の人生に変化が訪れる。
