就職活動で連戦連敗中の清水美空には、亡くなった人の声を聴くことができるという誰にも打ち明けていない力があった。彼女は葬祭プランナーの漆原礼二と出会い、導かれるように葬儀会社「坂東会館」でインターンとして働き始める。漆原の厳しい指導に心が折れそうになる美空だったが、誰よりも故人と遺族に寄り添う姿勢や、出棺の際に優しく「ほどなく、お別れです」と告げる漆原の姿に憧れを抱く。残された遺族だけでなく、故人も納得できる葬儀とはなにかと考えるなかで、美空は葬祭プランナーを目指すことを決意する。
